Acceptable Use

CodeGate is a tool for legitimate TOTP authentication workflows. This page explains what that means in practice.

Permitted use

CodeGate may be used for:

• Personal accounts whose TOTP secret belongs to you.
• Authorized authentication, where the owner of the account has given you permission to use it and its TOTP information.
• Legitimate TOTP workflows, such as viewing the current code for your own two-step verification setup on a computer.
• Testing where you have permission, for example checking that a two-step verification feature you are building produces the codes you expect.

Prohibited use

CodeGate must not be used for:

• Unauthorized account access.
• Credential theft or collecting other people's authentication information.
• Account takeover.
• Bypassing or defeating authentication or security controls.
• Fraud or deception.
• Impersonation of another person or organization.
• Accessing another person's credentials, or using their TOTP secret, without their permission.
• Automated or excessive requests that are meant to search for accounts or to overload the service.

Advertising rules

Advertisements on this site are reviewed before they are shown, and they must:

• be clearly separate from the tool and never imitate its buttons, messages, or codes;
• not use wording such as "Get your code", "Verify your account", or "Unlock your account" to mislead visitors;
• not be deceptive, unlawful, or harmful.

Advertisements that break these rules can be rejected or removed.

Reporting misuse

If you believe the service is being misused, or you see an advertisement or page that is misleading, please tell us through the Contact Us page.

What may happen if these rules are broken

We may block requests, disable stored accounts or advertiser accounts, remove advertisements, or restrict access to the service. Where the law requires it, or where it is needed to protect people, information about misuse may be shared with the relevant authorities.
